A fantastic marathon of asking deep questions has now come to an end. Literary agent, publisher, editor and intellectual enzyme\u00a0 John Brockman has now closed his famous series of World Question Centre\u00a0annual questions<\/a> asked to a curated group of scientists, writers and other Third Culture intellectuals \u2013 resulting in presentation\u00a0at the website Edge.org<\/a> and followed by publication in book format.<\/p>\n

The last question, of course, was the most challenging of them all: ”<\/p>\n

For the 50th anniversary of “The World Question Center,” and for the finale to the twenty years of\u00a0Edge<\/em>\u00a0Questions, I turned it over to the\u00a0Edgies:\u00a0<\/em>“Ask ‘The Last Question,’\u00a0your last question,\u00a0<\/em>the question for which you\u00a0will be remembered.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

As John explained his request: “Come up with a big, deep and ambitious question, breathtaking in scope, that at once is worthy of ‘the world\u2019s smartestwebsite,’\u00a0and which year after year reminds us of how wondrous our world is.”<\/p>\n

The result is now up at the Edge website <\/a>and will also be available in the book The Last Unknowns<\/a>\u00a0described by S\u00fcddeutsche Zeitung as “One of the most exciting reading streams ever.”<\/p>\n
